AI engineering

AI accelerates the work. Engineers own the decisions.

Our engineers use AI throughout their daily workflow to understand complex codebases, build faster, test more thoroughly and automate repetitive work — while staying accountable for every decision.

Principles

How we think about AI in engineering.

We don’t simply give engineers access to AI tools. We build an engineering culture where AI is part of the process — and engineers remain responsible for the result.

  • AI is a productivity layer

We use AI to remove friction from engineering work — exploration, boilerplate, test scaffolding, documentation — so engineers spend more time on the problems that need judgment.

  • Engineers own the decisions

Architecture, technical trade-offs, security and the final result are always the engineer’s responsibility. AI output is reviewed and understood before it is committed.

  • Your policies come first

Engineers work within your organization’s rules on which AI tools and models can be used, and what code or data can be shared with them.

  • Quality is not negotiable

Moving faster only matters if the software holds up. AI-assisted work goes through the same code review, testing and standards as everything else.

The workflow

Where AI helps, stage by stage.

From the first look at a codebase to the release, AI supports each step. The engineer owns each one.

  1. 01Understand

AI helpsUse AI to explore unfamiliar codebases, trace dependencies, understand legacy systems, and accelerate onboarding.

Engineer ownsBuilds an accurate mental model of the system and validates what the AI surfaces against the real code.

  2. 02Design

AI helpsEvaluate implementation alternatives, identify edge cases, explore architecture decisions, and challenge technical assumptions.

Engineer ownsChooses the approach, weighs trade-offs with your team, and owns the architecture decision.

  3. 03Build

AI helpsAccelerate implementation, generate repetitive code, create migrations, refactor existing components, and prototype solutions.

Engineer ownsWrites and shapes the code that matters, and understands every line that gets committed.

  4. 04Review

AI helpsUse AI as an additional review layer to identify potential bugs, inconsistencies, security concerns, and opportunities for improvement.

Engineer ownsReviews with human judgment, and takes part in your team's code review process as any other engineer would.

  5. 05Test

AI helpsGenerate test scenarios, unit tests, integration tests, test data, and identify edge cases that may otherwise be missed.

Engineer ownsDecides what must be tested, verifies coverage is meaningful, and keeps the suite maintainable.

  6. 06Ship

AI helpsDraft release notes, summarize changes, and help verify deployment checklists.

Engineer ownsOwns the release: deployment, verification in production, and the final call.

  7. 07Document

AI helpsCreate and maintain technical documentation, API documentation, implementation notes, and knowledge transfer material.

Engineer ownsKeeps documentation accurate, useful, and current as the system evolves.

Responsibilities

A clear division of work.

AI assists

  • Speeds up exploration of large or unfamiliar codebases
  • Proposes alternatives and surfaces edge cases
  • Generates repetitive code, migrations and test scaffolding
  • Adds a review pass for bugs, inconsistencies and security smells
  • Drafts and maintains documentation

Engineers decide

  • Decide architecture and technical direction
  • Understand and take responsibility for every change
  • Evaluate security, performance and maintainability
  • Collaborate with your team on product decisions
  • Ship — and stand behind what ships

FAQ

Questions engineering leaders ask.

Do Trifol engineers write code with AI?

Yes, where it helps. Engineers use AI to accelerate implementation, refactoring, tests and documentation. Every change is reviewed and understood by the engineer before it is committed, and goes through the client’s normal code review.

Which AI tools do Trifol engineers use?

It depends on the client. Engineers adapt to the AI tools and policies each organization has approved, and can recommend workflows where a team doesn’t yet have a standard.

How is code privacy handled when using AI tools?

Engineers follow the client organization’s rules about which AI tools are allowed and what code or data can be shared with them. Security remains an engineering responsibility — AI does not change who is accountable.

Does AI replace software engineers?

No. AI makes great engineers more capable. Judgment, context, communication and accountability are what make engineering work, and those stay with people.
